Friday, June 22, 2012 Speedway Entertainment Comes on Board as Series Sponsor, Lowers Pit Admission to $25

MERTZTOWN, Pa. -- As a result of Speedway Entertainment coming on board as the series sponsor, Pete Knappenberger promoter of the SSCS and Rich Tobias from Speedway Entertainment have decided to lower the pit entry fee to $25.00. There will however be a $20 car entry per car, “we tried to run a small car race without a car entry but it just can’t be done, so we have decided to lower the pit entry and add a car entry.” Pete Knappenberger said when asked about the car entry situation.” Pete added “We hope that all that have supported the series come back for the July race, all we (the SSCS) are trying to do is give the small cars a new place to run, and it doesn’t get any better than the historic Grandview Speedway”’.
Also we are calling all kids with bikes…(one speed only) there will be running a bike race for all kids under 16 years of age, the winner will receive a pass to 4 tickets to the Iron Pigs base ball team in Allentown PA and dinner at Texas Roadhouse in Trexlertown. The race will be a 2 lap race on the front stretch, and we the kids will be divided into age groups. We invite the kids if they want they want competitors can decorate their bike to look like their favorite driver’s car.
Low car count does not deter the SSCS from putting on another great show…. The Speedway Entertainment SSCS continues on July 22nd.
The Speedstrs made their first appearance of the year on June 17th and put on a great show, Rich Tobias decided after that to help out the series and become the series sponsor for the remaining races in 2012. “We are proud to have them back for the remainder of the 2012 season” Pete Knappenberger said.
Yes it is true that the Sunday Small car Series had a very low car count for their second race of the year but, the racing was awesome and the fans got their money worth again. According to many of the teams tire wear was a non factor in Sunday’s race. “I checked with a lot of the teams and tire wear was not an issue this race, as I have stated many times before both the track and I addressed the situation and obviously Kenny Rogers prepped the track just the way it needed to be for Sunday’s race” Pete Knappenberger explained.
With the low car count promoter Pete Knappenberger decided to shake up the format just a little and run twin 15’s for the Micro divisions, twin 10’s for the Slinger’s and a regular format for the Speedstrs with heats and one feature.
As far as the racing for the SSCS; Side by side racing was at a premium for Sundays race, Richie Hartman in the # 30speedstr challenged several time on the outside before Rahmer had an issue with his # 51 Speedstr. They went side by side for about 5 laps before Rahmer faded to the back.
In the other three divisions the story was the same, the Slingshots ran side by side for several laps before Simon Egan went on to win the first of two 10 lap features, Joe Nemeth went on to win the second 10 lap feature.
The RTS Chassis 600 Micros put on a great show dicing backing forth through the whole pack and when it was all said and done Tim Buckwalter came home first in feature race # 1 and Pat Bealer came across the line first for the second 15 lap feature.
In the Viper Chassis 270 race Josh Stoyer would prove to have a stellar day put on a commanding performance in feature race number 1 and finishing second in feature race number 2, Kevin Berger with an impressive run wins feature race number 2. The 270’s car count dropped a lot from the first race and hopefully some of them come back after enjoying father’s day at home with dad.
July 22nd is the next race on tap for the SSCS, hopefully all the drivers and teams can put to rest the question about tires, move past the holiday and the SSCS can get a full field of cars like the first race in May. The Central PA legend cars are scheduled to return to the series for the next two dates in July and August. The Legend cars were forced to take the June race off because of a scheduling conflict.
On a side note Herrs Snack Company provided free snacks for the fans and the folks in the pit area as they brought quite a few cases of potato chips to share will all that wanted some.
