LEBANON, Ind. -- The USSA Sprint Car Challenge Series will take the stage beginning with the 2013 racing season, officials of the United States Speed Association are excited to announce. The racing series will feature traditional non-winged pavement sprint cars and concentrate on short track racing.

Non-winged pavement sprint car racing has long been a fan and competitor favorite on the short tracks of the Midwest due to the fast and furious racing the powerful cars produce. USSA officials believe that properly nurtured in conjunction with enthusiastic competitors and quality racing promoters, the non-winged sprint cars can grow and prosper on the paved short tracks.

“We’re pleased to have the pavement sprinters join the Mel Kenyon Midget Series in the USSA racing family,” said USSA President Don Kenyon. “We believe that with the right management, the racers, tracks and fans can experience stability and growth into the future for these great race cars.” Kenyon continued.

Racing in cooperation with Must See Racing, the 65th running of the Pay Less Little 500 at Anderson Speedway will be the crown jewel of the series as well as a full point paying event. Anderson Speedway’s Glen Niebel Classic will also be a spring feature on the USSA Sprint Challenge Series schedule. USSA Officials are projecting a 6 to 8 race inaugural season for the USSA Sprint Car Challenge Series.

“When we schedule our events we want to make sure that we are working with the Must See Racing, HOSS and the AVSS winged car series schedules so that our schedule is not in conflict with theirs,” explained Eric Bunn, USSA VP and Competition Director. “This not only helps USSA, cooperation with the other pavement series means that the fans and competitors will be able to follow all types of pavement sprint car racing without having to choose between events on the same date or weekend,” Bunn elaborated.

USSA Sprint Car Challenge Series car rules will be based on the rules in place for the Payless Little 500. These rules have a track record of producing close and exciting sprint car racing while encouraging the innovation that keeps the competition fresh for both the fans and the teams.

The United States Speed Association makes every effort to be aware of the costs associated with racing and tires are one of the expenses that concerns competitors the most. For the inaugural USSA Sprint Car Challenge Series season, USSA will feature an open tire rule allowing teams to compete on the brand of tire they may race in other series. This means a team will not be forced to buy a specific brand of tires to race in USSA. Hoosier Racing Tire has committed to making tires for all four corners of the cars available to the teams. Hoosier Racing Tire is also the Official Tire of the USSA Mel Kenyon Midget Series.
