32 Days...Countdown to First DIRTcar All-Star Weekend Continues

WEEDSPORT, N.Y. -- Culminating with the headline ‘All-Star 100’ on July 19, the start of DIRTcar All-Star Weekend ’09 on the Cayuga County Fairgrounds is just over a month away. The historic Weedsport, New York speedway comes to life for three straight days of heart-pounding, high-powered, pedal-mashing entertainment, with the 100-lap Big-Block Modified winner on Sunday taking home $20,000 from the record $100,000 purse.

Commemorating the 34th straight season of operation for the DIRTcar Racing organization and founding member facility Cayuga County Fair Speedway, all 34 days leading up to the historic event are filled with important news, notes and nostalgia, each continuing to showcase the biggest motorsports extravaganza of the summer --- including the richest race ever scheduled in the history of the popular Route 31 oval.

Its being billed as the ‘Super DIRT Weekend’ of the summer with Cayuga County’s home track heroes defending their native soil against the top invaders from around the Northeast in a high speed chase for some of the highest stakes found anywhere in short-track racing today.

When all the Big-Block bullies lock horns at the birthplace of DIRTcar Modified Racing, will it be reigning Weedsport points king Alan Johnson, Jimmy Phelps, Matt Sheppard or two-time ’09 Cayuga County winner Steve Paine making a honorable homestand, or youngbloods Jeff Brownell Jr., Justin Haers, Ryan Phelps, Billy Dunn, Larry Wight and Frankie Caprara capturing their first-ever tour triumph in front of the prominently partisan crowd? Or will it be current Advance Series high point man Brett Hearn registering career win number 101 on the premier trail, or Mr. DIRTcar point chasers Dale Planck, Michael Storms, Gary Tomkins, Danny Johnson and defending overall champion Billy Decker setting the record straight in the Sunday evening shootout? Or maybe returning veterans like 2009 Syracuse Rite Aid 200 Champion Frank Cozze from Pennsylvania, past Super DIRT Week winner Jimmy Horton or dark horses like Billy Pauch Jr. or Ryan Godown all hauling in from New Jersey? Be the first to find out when the best in the Big-Block business converge on The Port in July, the secret is sure to get out with $20,000 on the line and a grand just to take the green in DIRTcar’s showcase event of the summer.
