Friday, July 15, 2011 The Best 360 Sprint Drivers Battle for Big Steaks and Bragging Rights
 by Amanda Hirko
ELBRIDGE, N.Y. -- They are fire breathing methanol machines…simply a motor, a frame and a wing and they are invading the Rolling Wheels Raceway Park for two days of excitement. The Sprint Car Summer Shootout will pit the very best sprint car drivers from five states and two Canadian provinces shooting for thousands of dollars.
While the two day event technically will see its inaugural year here in 2011 (Mother Nature claimed both nights last season), the event that combines sanctions is steep in history dating back to 1994. Then, the Empire Super Sprints (ESS) and United Racing Club (URC) got together to see who would go home with bragging rights.
ESS and URC went on to host well over 20 combination events from as far south as Delaware to as far north as Upstate NY. Today known as the Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints and the Rislone Series for the United Racing Company will be joined by the Patriot Sprint Tour (PST) for the shootout on July 22nd and 23rd.
While three tours are sanctioning the weekend, the unique draw and time trial format is open to any 360 team that conforms to the Shootout rules which means fans will see well over 40 sprinters in the pits.
Each club will bring their guns loaded, a who's who in sprint car names…point leaders Chuck Hebing (ESS), JJ Grasso (URC) and Jared Zimbardi (PST) will be on hand holding their club's banner high and looking for victory. But, the talent doesn't stop there by any means.
Curt Michael, Shawn Donath, Steve Poirier, Randy West, Lance Yonge, Tim Kelly, Bryan Howland, Josh Weller, Becca Anderson, Kevin Ward Jr., Alain Bergeron, Don Adamczyk, Kramer Williamson, Robbie Stillwaggon and yes, All-Star Circuit of Champions regular Jessica Zemken will be on hand.
Group time trials, heats, B-Mains all leading up to the 25 lap A-Mains which will see $2,000 got to the victor on Friday and a $3,000 pot of gold set on Saturday. Over 100 MPH speeds on a multi-grooved half-mile is what the doctor ordered for this weekend.
Rolling Wheels is coming off two very successful events with huge crowds for the All-Star Weekend and the Stars and Stripes evening but the attention is now on the Shootout.
