MACON, Ill. -- Macon Speedway will be hosting a second chance for the UMP Touchstone Energy Sportsman class to qualify for the Sportsman Nationals held during the Illinois State Fair on Sunday, August 23. The Sportsman have the chance to qualify at two other area race tracks, Morgan County Speedway on July 31 and Shepp’s Speedway on August 2. Each qualifying night the top four finishers guarantee their spot in the Sportsman Nationals held at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in front of thousands of cheering fans.

All six UMP divisions will be racing this weekend trying to pick up points. The point’s race is really heating up as all divisions have less than 124 points between the first and second place point’s leaders. The UMP Modified division is being led by Joe Strawkas of Buffalo, IL but Joe will have to make all the right moves to hold off Dave Crawley Jr. AKA “Elvis” in order to keep the top spot as he only leads by a mere eight points. The Amateur Hornet division is the closest with two drivers tied for first place, Brett Embry and Sam McCoy. The other divisions top spot holders are; Kyle Logue, Cisco, IL in the UMP Late Model division; Rick Roedel, Shelbyville, IL in the UMP Touchstone Energy division; Blake Shelley, Oakley, IL in the Street Stock division and Joe Reed in the Pro Hornet division.

Macon Speedway will take a break from the exciting weekly stock car racing in order to let fans enjoy the upcoming Decatur Celebration on August 8. Macon Speedway will be hosting Go Karts on August 8. Macon Speedway will then resume its normal schedule on August 15 with Fan Appreciation night and will continue racing every Saturday night through September 26. Plenty of good seats are still available for the upcoming Night of Nascar Stars II to be held on September 2 featuring Tony Stewart, Mark Martin and Ken Schrader. We have lots still planned for 2009 so be sure to come join Macon Speedway for an action packed end to the summer.

Gates will open at 5:00 and racing will start at 7:00. Adults are $10 and kids 12 and under get in for free with a paying adult.
