50th Milk Bowl Ready for Sunday

BARRE, Vt. -- After two attempts at the 50th Annual People’s United Bank Milk Bowl, racers and fans have received word of a good forecast for this Sunday, October 28th to run the $160,000 event. With championship titles across the region completed, American Canadian Tour Late Models will take the gloves off one last time in 2012.

Two-time Thunder Road Champion Dave Pembroke will take another shot at starting from the pole, with 8-time ACT Champion Brian Hoar as his dancing partner in second. 2012 King of the Road Nick Sweet will take his shot at the 50th Milk Bowl from the third starting position, followed by Fort Kent, ME’s Austin Theriault and multi-time Thunder Road Champion Cris Michaud. The odds favor the top five to have the best shot at long-time Promoter Tom Curley’s Challenge: $50,000 to anyone who can win all three segments. When the first 50-lap segment ends, only one driver will have a shot at the feat, with two 75-lap features left to get the job done.

21 non-qualified cars will battle for the $3,000 to win Reserve Milk Bowl, headed by former Riverside Speedway Champion Brian Mason and Oxford Plains Speedway star Travis Stearns on the front row. The field will include young sensation Emily Packard, former Thunder Road champions Joey Laquerre, Jamie Fisher, and Dave Whitcomb, Canadian Série ACT Castrol regular Jonathan Bouvrette, and Devil’s Bowl Speedway Championship runner-up Matt White. The $20,000 race will be run in two 50-lap segments.

The Bond Auto Tiger Sportsmen will finally be able to settle their congested Championship battle, as Wolcott’s Brendan Moodie, Jr. leads Hinesburg’s Bobby Therrien by 9 points, and two-time Tiger Champion Shawn Fleury by 10 points coming into the final event. The first segment saw Bobby Therrien pick up the win and set himself up for a shot at his first Tiger title. Moodie and Fleury will have to claw from the rear of the field in a 35-lap battle along with Therrien to ultimately decide the 2012 Bond Auto Tiger Champion on Sunday.

Hardwick’s Bunker Hodgdon picked up the segment win in the first round of the Allen Lumber Street Stock “Mini Milk Bowl”, and will try to hold off 2012 Champion Nick Pilotte and his teammate Ben Belanger, as well as Lincoln, VT’s Garry Bashaw and Morrisville, VT’s Jamie Davis to pick up the overall win.

The 50th Annual People’s United Bank Milk Bowl, the $20,000 Reserve Milk Bowl, and the final Championship events for the Bond Auto Tiger Sportsmen and Allen Lumber Street Stocks will be in action this Sunday, October 28th. Post time is 1:00pm.
