RANSOMVILLE, N.Y. -- A total of one hundred cars signed in pitside to do battle last Friday night at the big R. The visiting BRP CanAm Late Model series totaled thirty-eight entries filling the pit area to capacity.
Ricky Richner of Niagara Falls, NY captured his second Mighty Taco Modified win in a row at Ransomville Speedway. Richner and Scott George put on the show of the season as they battled side by side for the last fifteen laps with neither giving an inch. The fans didn’t need their seats as they were standing watching this battle to end all battles. George was scored the leader on all but the final circuit as Richner took the lead coming off turn four of the final lap and took the win.
Bob Winters led the first few circuits prior to a lap three spin by Boyd MacTavish collected the cars of Dick Park, Ricky Richner, Mark Golding, Bill Torissi, Sam Crogan, and Robbie Krull. Chad Brachmann and Scott Kerwin also got a piece of the accident as they too headed pitside. All were able to continue on. Scott George took the lead on the restart but it was also short lived as Todd Burley lost power on the back stretch. Golding made contact with the slowing #62 machine sending Burley around in turn four. George maintained the lead on the restart over Rich Vinson, Ricky Richner, Pete Bicknell, and Jon Miller. The yellow fever continued as Brachmann and Burley came together in turn four on lap 8 bringing out yet another caution.
George maintainted the top spot with Richner running a strong second. The pair of 26’s put on a great show for the lead as they battled side by side lap after lap. Defending champion Bicknell moved into third followed by Krull and Vinson. A three wide battle between Miller, Burley, and MacTavish left MacTavish around in the front stretch moat. George set the pace leading the field back to green. As the front two continued to run side by side, Bicknell watched in third. Richner was scored the leader on lap twenty-five but Georges momentum off the topside helped him regain the lead. The pair continued to run side by side lap after lap with Richner getting the edge on the final circuit and collecting the win.
Pete Stefanski of Wheatfield, NY took top honors aboard the fifteen lap Bobcat of Buffalo ProStock main. Stefanski won his fourth of the season aboard his San-Ter Sewing #2s machine. Stefanski took the lead away from Dave Williams on lap four and quickly pulled away from the field. Stefanski took the win over Dave Williams, Steve Lewis, Mike Williams, and Don Barnes.
Jeremy Wonderling Scio, NY took the lead away from Randy Hall of Olean, NY on lap nineteen with a move to the outside. Wonderling and Hall put on a great show up front for the fans as they ran side by side for several laps prior to Wonderling taking command. Just when it appeared to be over, Hall mounted a re-challenge resulting in a side by side battle for position. The pair ran side by side for the remaining laps with Wonderling hanging on for the win. Hall had taken the lead away from Bruce Miller on lap seven and quickly pulled away to a five car length advantage. However it would not be enough as Wonderling took over second and quickly moved in on Hall. A few laps later Wonderling pulled alongside of Hall and took over the top spot. Hall, Darren Kish, Miller, and Neil Patterson rounded out the top five. A total of thirty-eight entries signed in pitside aboard the Late Model class making it the largest divisional count of the season. They fast full bodied cars put on a great show for the fans as they three wheeled through the corners. The BRP CanAm Late Models will return for the annual King of the Hill weekend.
Dave Jowdy of Ransomville, NY captured his second Johnstons Restaurant Streetstock main last Friday night aboard his Dream Construction sponsored machine. Jowdy took the lead away from Ben Harms on lap twelve after he drifted high in turn one. One circuit earlier…Harms had inherited the lead when Glenn Barlow drifted too high. A trio of cautions slowed the event including a lap nine gingle in turn one that side-lined the efforts of Brian Sparks and Dave Stolzenberg Jr.. Sparks lost the handle leaving Stolzenberg with no where to go. Barlow, Harms, Jason Meyers, and Derek Smith rounded out the top five.
Roger Israel took the lead away from his son Jaren on a lap seven restart and went on to win his first of the 2006 season aboard the Johnstons Restaurant Streetstock division. Jaren had led the first seven laps prior to losing the top spot to his dad. Jaren was able to come home in second followed by Jeff Schulze, Dan Baughman, and Mike Short. The caution filled event slowed some five times in the fifteen lap distance. Boots Martin was enjoying a great top five run before contact with Brandon Sherwood sent Martin into the front stretch moat. Martin used Kinser way to take his 00m machine pitside.
