RALEIGH, N.C. -- The RacersReunion held in conjunction with the 26th Annual Piedmont Racing Expo this weekend is expected to draw notable drivers and family members of drivers who raced at the Raleigh Fairgrounds Speedway between 1955 and 1970. The Reunion will take place on the Saturday, January 14 with a special autograph session from 10am-2pm in the Expo Building on the Fairgrounds, just a few yards from the historic grandstands of the old race track.
Those expected to attend include: Gene Hobby, Lloyd Dane, Dink Widenhouse, Hank Thomas, Raymond Williams, Bill Hollar, Tommy Norris, Dan Honeycutt, Wayne McGhee, Ronnie Hartsfield, Bill Blair, Gary Lewallen, James Jones, Jackie Rogers, Wallace Smith, Kent Fogleman, Earl Arnold, Bill Mangum, Wally Bell, Donnie Watson, and others!
Andy Hillenburg, former racer and now owner of Rockingham Speedway will be signing autographs Friday from 6pm-8pm at the Expo. Hillenburg will also have one of his NASCAR Trucks on display promoting the return of the truck series to his famed track in April of 2012.
The Racing Expo is a two-day event, Friday and Saturday, January 13-14. It features a short-track trade show with over 40 vendors ranging from racing parts and accessory distributors to area speedways discussing new rules and scheduled.
They mainstay of the Expo, the Racing Auction will start at 3pm on Friday and again at 9am on Saturday selling over 1000 lots of used racing equipment, tools, and parts.
Admission is $10 daily, Kids 12-15, $5 daily, and women and children under 12 free. Hours are 1-9pm on Friday and 8am-5pm Saturday. Details may be found at www.piedmontracingexpo.com.
