Furr Flies at Four Wide Nationals, Takes Second Win in Super Comp

CONCORD, N.C. -- Michelle Furr knows a thing or two about drag racing.

The Galax, Va. resident has won twice in the Super Comp category at the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals at zMAX Raceway. Super Comp is part of the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series for sportsmen racers, where competition is open among tiremakers.

Part of Furr’s secret is her Goodyear tires. She was one of six Goodyear-equipped drivers who won at zMax, by far the best total in the tire industry for the weekend.

Goodyear’s other Lucas Oil Series winners at zMAX included Tim Molnar (in Top Sportsman) and Bill Reichert (Top Alcohol Dragster). Goodyear’s Full Throttle Drag Racing Series for professionals were Spencer Massey (Top Fuel), Robert Hight (Funny Car) and Greg Anderson (Pro Stock).

“We have been with Goodyear since the early 90s,” Furr said. “It’s the only tire we’ve ever run. My 60-foot times are awesome, deadly consistent.”

Furr uses Goodyear’s D2622 rear tire, which measures 34.5 inches tall, 17 inches wide and mounts on a 16-inch rim. The tire has Goodyear’s D-2A compound. Furr estimated she can get nearly an entire season on a set of D2622s.
Molnar (Seville, Ohio) earned his first national event victory in his fifth final-round appearance. He uses Goodyear’s D2532 rear tire.

“It’s been the most consistent tire we’ve ever put on the car,” Molnar said. “We’ve tried other but just couldn’t get the consistency out of them.”

The D2532 measures 33.5 inches tall and 17 inches across the tread face. The tire mounts on a 16-inch rim and its construction includes Goodyear’s D-2A tread compound. Molnar estimated his team gets 65 passes on a set.

Reichert, who has won five of the last six national championships in TAD, mounts a set of Goodyear’s D1230 on the rear axle of his car. The D1230 is 36 inches tall and measures 17 inches across the tread face. It fits on a 16-inch rim and is equipped with the D-2A tread compound. The win was his third at the track.

Reichert (Owosso, Mich.), the five-time TAD national champion, has raced just twice this season, scoring a runner up and the win at zMAX. He now has three wins at the track.

Reichert said of the D1230, “They seem to work very well. They fit our needs.”
