BROWNSTOWN, Ind. -- Brownstown Speedway is pleased to announce that the Lucas Oil NARA DirtCar Series will sanction the 22nd Annual Hoosier Dirt Classic. This will be the second straight year that the NARA series has presided over this event. Last year, Mike Jewell of Scottsburg, IN claimed the biggest win of his career in the Hoosier Dirt Classic, sanctioned by the NARA.
"We are pleased to be returning to Brownstown for the Hoosier Dirt Classic" Series director Spencer Wilson said. "We also are pleased to be holding the very first O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass Series race in the state of Indiana on June 25 for the Lee Fleetwood Memorial." Wilson added. "Working with tradition based speedways like Brownstown, as we continue to build, is vital to the success of the Lucas Oil NARA DirtCar Series"
The Hoosier Dirt Classic has a long running tradition of being one of the "cant miss events" of the early part of the racing season. Each year, upwards of 50 Late Models hit the grounds to vie for the HDC championship. In 1984 the tradition started, with Jeff Purvis winning the inagural Hoosier Dirt Classic. From then on, it became a who's who of Late Model pilots taking victories. Bloomquist, Gill, Moore, Boggs, Moyer just to name a few. Don O'Neal leads the way with five Hoosier Dirt Classic wins, including four straight (1999, 2000, 01, 02). With the strong contingent of Brownstown Speedway regulars, mixed in with the Lucas Oil NARA Dirtcar Series regulars, and some of the midwest's best, the 2005 edition of the Hoosier Dirt Classic is shaping up to be one for the record books. The HDC will pay $7,000 to win and $500 to start.
The O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass Series will make their first visit to the state of Indiana for the 7th Annual Lee Fleetwood Memorial, on June 25th. Defending series champion, Aaron Hatton will lead the BoB Squad north of the border to tangle with Indiana's best. Mark Barber of North Vernon, Indiana took home the Lee Fleetwood Memorial crown in 2004. The inagural event back in 1999 went to Steve Barnett. Barnett would go on to win a second Lee Fleetwood crown in 2002. Mike Jewell took two victories in 2000 and 2001, with Dan Sturgeon claiming victory in 2003. Remembering the late Lee Fleetwood is very important to the history of the Brownstown Speedway. Fleetwood was an important figure every Saturday night throughout the 70's, 80's, and 90's until his death in 1998. The Lee Fleetwood Memorial race was the brainchild of Bill and Marty Fleetwood, the promoters of Brownstown Speedway in 1999. This 2005 edition of the Lee Fleetwood Memorial will pay $3,000 to win.
