Wednesday, June 24, 2009 Roaring Knob to Host Inaugural Fastrak Northeast Late Model Touring Series Event Saturday
 by Mike Leone
PULASKI, Pa. -- After a one-month layoff, the FASTRAK Northeast Late Model Touring Series is gearing up for a busy stretch with seven events over the next month starting with this Saturday night, June 27 at Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex in Markleysburg, Pa. Race time is 7 p.m. Saturday's event will mark the first ever FASTRAK Northeast Touring Series race at Roaring Knob. Race #4 of the 17-event 2009 Northeast Touring slate will include a 25-lap feature paying $1,200 to-win, $150 to-start. Thus far this year, Mike Pegher, Jr. was victorious in the season opener at Tyler County on April 25 and the first ever event at Sharon Speedway on May 23. Defending champion Max Blair won the 'Steel Valley Memorial Day Classic' at Mercer Raceway Park two days later on May 25. The average car count for the three events was 32 cars with 60 different drivers competing! Roaring Knob signed on a FASTRAK weekly-sanctioned track for the first time in 2009, but has really fought the weather only completing four of their eight events thus far. There has yet to be a repeat winner as Roger Laughlin, Dan Angelicchio, Pegher, and Wayne Jordan have all been victorious. All four drivers are expected to be in action on Saturday. 'Having Roaring Knob join as a FASTRAK member was a great addition,' explained Northeast Co-Director Vicki Emig. 'It really helped expand our region and gave racers in that area the ability to run two nights without having to travel as far. Of course we're thrilled that owner Ron Brutt has allowed us to be able to run our inaugural Touring event there Saturday.' After three FASTRAK Northeast Touring Series events, David Scott has used consistency to lead the early championship race with finishes of fifth, second, and third in the John and Janet Powell-owned, Bullitt Chassis #100. The Garland, Pa. racer leads Pegher by just one point and Angelicchio by four. There have been 22 Touring Series races held all-time with 11 different winners. Barton currently sits on top of the all-time win list at four, followed by John Lacki, Pegher and Max Blair with three, Alan Dellinger and Bobby Powell with two, and Todd Andrews, Kyle Drum, Frank Guidace, Butch Lambert, and Carl McKinney with one victory. 'Roaring Knob should pose an interesting challenge to our racers,' stated Northeast Co-Director Mike Leone. 'A few of the drivers have made a trip down already to get prepped for the show, but for many of the drivers Roaring Knob will be a new experience. We expect a strong field of cars with Mercer, McKean, Tyler County, and Pittsburgh not running the division on Saturday. On May 30, Roaring Knob had a record 24 cars for a regular show. In the first three Touring events, we've already had 60 different drivers compete and there are another nine that are Touring members that have yet to run. We expect some new cars on Saturday, and in fact there are double those numbers that have already raced in FASTRAK-sanctioned events in the Northeast thus far this season!' Feature payoff for Roaring Knob: 1. $1,200 2. $650 3. $450 4. $350 5. $325 6. $300 7. $275 8. $260 9. $255 10. $250 11. $225 12. $210 13. $200 14. $175 15. $165 16. $160 17. $155 18-24. $150 Current FASTRAK Northeast Touring Series points (only Touring members receive points): 1.
