 by Mike Leone
PULASKI, Pa. -- It's not even Thanksgiving, but the 2010 FASTRAK Northeast Late Model Touring Series slate is quickly coming together. The 2010 season will mark the fourth for the fast-growing series and is expected to be the largest to date. This comes after the 2009 season that saw record car counts and participation. Several blockbuster announcements are in the works and will be released throughout the holiday season!
First and foremost FASTRAK wishes to thank the nine Northeast weekly-sanctioned speedways in 2009; Arcade International Raceway, Dog Hollow Speedway, Elkins Speedway, Raceway 7, McKean County Raceway, Mercer Raceway Park, Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex, Tyler County Speedway, and Tri-City Speedways. The majority of the speedways will be returning once again for 2010 and there have already been some new inquiries from other speedways about becoming FASTRAK weekly-sanctioned.
Besides the exciting FASTRAK National Weekly Series, the Northeast Touring Series is the second integral piece of the FASTRAK program. This has grown each season and is expected to continue in 2010. Already 11 events are booked with at least another six speedways expected to take at least one event.
'We're thrilled with where the 2010 schedule is to date,' stated Northeast Co-Director Vicki Emig. 'Tracks are calling us, which is a good thing. The Touring Series events have proved to be win-win situation for both drivers and promoters. Currently we're in the process of working with additional speedways to make sure the dates are conducive to all parties.'
The 2009 Northeast Touring Series saw David Scott become the third different champion in three seasons joining inaugural winner Alan Dellinger (2007) and Max Blair (2008). Scott drove the Bullitt Chassis #100 owned by John and Janet Powell to three victories on the Tour to edge out Blair by just six points for the $5,000 championship.
The FASTRAK Northeast Touring Series racers will receive a record point fund at the Normandy Banquet Center/Hickory VFW, which will be held in conjunction with Mercer Raceway Park's awards banquet on Saturday, January 16. This event is open to the public and more information will be posted in the coming weeks.
A record 17 Northeast Touring Series events were booked in 2009 with a record 15 completed and a record 138 different drivers competing. The average car count was 32 with 10 of the 15 events reaching 30 cars or more including an all-time record car count of 43 at Tri-City Speedway on September 5-6. Region wide in the Northeast, a total of 208 drivers competed in FASTRAK-sanctioned events!
'We have not only been working on the Northeast Touring Series schedule, but also on three other exciting FASTRAK-related programs,' revealed Northeast Co-Director Mike Leone. 'These announcements will have a major impact on the growth of FASTRAK in the Northeast. It has been amazing how far this Series has come in just three short years!'
