UNION, Ky. -- The American Modified Series presented its fifth event of the 2012 season on Saturday evening at Florence Speedway in Union, KY and the tour got its fifth different winner in as many events this season when current UMP Modified national points leader and second generation speedster Devin Gilpin of Columbus, IN grabbed his first series win in 2012 and his 21st overall win of the season and picked up a $1,500 payday.

Gilpin would take the lead at the start of the event and lead the first four circuits before surrendering the lead to Chris Stotts. However, Gilpin would not be denied on this evening as he would retake the lead from Stotts on lap 8 and survive a late race caution to motor to the victory. Matt Hamilton would take runner-up honors, while defending series champion Bryan Barber claimed third place honors. Current series points leader Trent Young would finish fourth, with Joe Godsey completing the top five in the Florence Speedway American Modified Series A-Main.

The remainder of the top ten finishers would be Joey Kramer, Pete Holt, Kyle Schornick, Jacoby Hines, and 21st starting and hard charger Jimmy Payne. The 30 lap, $1,500 to win event would be slowed by five caution flags (one of which turned into a red flag) and take 31 minutes to complete.

In preliminary action, Matt Hamilton would be the Williams Precision Engine top qualifier among 36 entries at 19.149 seconds. Devin Gilpin would win Hypercoil Springs heat one, while Trent Young won Wiles Driveshafts heat two. Chris Stotts would take the win in VP Racing Fuels heat three, with Trent Green winning Comp Cams heat four. Richard Gibson and Eric Shepherd would be the B-Main winners, while provisional starters would be Jimmy Payne, Shawn Brown, and Ryan Morton.
