LEBANON, Ind. -- Travis Young led his closest USSA Mel Kenyon Midget Series Championship competitors under the checkers at US 24 Speedway on Saturday August 25th. Youngs victory on the Logansport, IN bullring was his 1st ever on a dirt track. Young and series point runner-up Dameron Taylor both took advantage of a lap 2 dust-up in turn two to get in contact with pole sitter Kent Kriegbaum following the restart. Young made the pass into first on lap three and Taylor followed him by Kriegbaum into second place. Young and Taylor traded Championship points all evening with Young coming out on top by picking up a slim three points on Simpson World Indy Rookie of the Year point leader Taylor. Deeper in the field Jessica Bean fought her way into fourth place to stay in touch with point rival Cordy Horn. Horn would end the night in 3rd place while Bean trailed him in the 4th spot. Following the US 24 race Bean leads Horn by only 7 markers in the USSA Mel Kenyon Midget Series points race. Spencer Bayston wrestled his Kenyon Midget into the 5th position to fill out the top five. Bayston rode on the cushion to lead 28 of the 30 laps in the non-wing mini sprint division. He eventually finished 2nd in that race. Dameron Taylor and Cordy Horn won the Mel Kenyon Midget Series heats. The race was slowed by just two caution flags.
