Siefert Eyes Return to Manitowoc County Expo Speedway for Badger Mod Tour Aug. 23

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- It’s been many years since Green Bay native Jared Siefert has raced a modified weekly at the Manitowoc County Expo.

10 years to be exact. It was 2002 when Siefert won the IMCA modified title when the track ran weekly on Wednesday nights. Siefert, who now calls Luxemburg home, has filed an entry and is expected to be one of the top guns when the Custom Windows Plus Badger Mod Tour presented by Floors By Design & Directional Drilling Services will invade the third-mile, clay oval Thursday night, August 23 at 7 p.m.

Among other area drivers who can claim to have earned modified titles at the Expo over the years include Green Bay drivers Eddie Muenster, Verlyn Giguere and RM Van Pay. “That last year we ran it was a pretty tough field,” said Siefert. “Mike Mashl was running then too. So was Jay Schraufnagel, who came over from Beaver Dam. For a short time that summer I remember racing my modified five nights a week. We’d run Oshkosh Tuesdays, Manitowoc Wednesdays, Luxemburg Fridays, Sturgeon Bay Saturdays and Seymour Sundays. Not sure how I was able to do it.”

Since then the track has switched nights, classes and at times track operators. The track currently runs a weekly Friday night program under the direction of Eastern Wisconsin Stock Car (EWSC).

The race will be run during the Manitowoc County fair. A great deal is in store for the race fans, as for just $10 they will get admittance to the fair, including the carnival rides, and also will get them into the race. “It’s one of the biggest bangs for your buck in the area,” said Dan Newberg of the Manitowoc County Expo.

The entire race program that night will be run by the staff of 141 Speedway, including track preparation. Merle Lisowe, Bruce Conard and Ryan Collins will oversee the preparation of the clay oval. “We are keeping it to two classes, and our focus is the get the show done in a timely manner so folks can get out that same night and enjoy the Manitowoc County fair,” said Conard.

It will wrap up a busy week for the BMT as just two nights prior, Tuesday, August 21 the Tour heads to Oshkosh Speedzone.

Joining the Badger Mod Tour for this show will be the street stocks, which will battle for a $500 top prize. The draw cutoff is 6:30 p.m. with racing getting underway at 7 p.m. For more information on the Badger Mod Tour you can check badgermodtour.com and also follow them on Facebook.
