Friday, August 24, 2012 Brian Mullen Regains Badger Mod Tour Points Lead

GREEN BAY, WIS. -- With his second straight podium finish in three days, Seymour veteran Brian Mullen regained the points lead in the Custom Windows Plus Badger Mod tour presented by Floors By Design & Directional Drilling Services. On Thursday Mullen finished second to Luxemburg native Benji LaCrosse, who netted a popular win at the Manitowoc County Fair Thursday night.
Beaver Dam's Craig Priewe moved into third in the BMT points, .5 points ahead of Juneau's Russ Reinwald.
CAUTION FREE ZONE - With Manitowoc's BMT race going caution free, that makes the third A main out of six Tour races that went caution free. "I think it shows just what a quality field of drivers you've got chasing this deal," said BMT points leader Brian Mullen. Other races at Oshkosh Speedzone and Dodge County Fairgrounds also went wire-to-wire.
NEW CAR COMING - In what perhaps has been one of the worst kept secrets in the local racing circles, Mullen tipped his hat and indicated he'd be debuting a new car, most likely at the BMT season finale at 141 Speedway in Francis Creek October 5. "I'm in the process of building my own car," said Mullen, who's raced Harris chassis for the past several years. Mullen reportedly has already had several drivers inquire about having Mullen build them a race car for 2013. No word yet on what his new modifieds will be called.
BURNING THE MIDNIGHT OIL - The 3/8 mile clay oval was prepped by the 141 Speedway staff. Headed up by Merle Lisowe, Bruce Conard, Ryan Collins, Joe Higgins and Jason Wagner began prepping the oval within minutes of the Wednesday night races being completed. They stayed until 2 a.m. grading, packing and picking rocks. The crew was promptly right back at it early Thursday morning. Conard and company had a caravan of their own track prep equipment as early as Monday roll down County "R" to the grounds. After the races on the Midway of the Fair many fans were commenting that was the best prepped track they've seen at the Expo since the 1990's.
BY THE NUMBERS - Harris chassis led the way with 9 cars taking starter Dave Deprey's green flag in the 30 lap A main. GRT was 2nd with 4. Wild Inc. had 3, with Slick chassis at 2. Tracer, Predator, Jeff Taylor, Skyrocket, Razor and Dirtworks chassis each with one participant in the 24 car field at Manitowoc. To date 22 drivers have made all 6 BMT shows so far. 95 different drivers representing four states have raced in the BMT in 2012.
LUCKY DOG - Eagle River's Jason Zdroik pocketed a pair of $100 bills before racing even started Thursday night at Manitowoc. Zdroik won a drawing for $100 at the drivers meeting, amongst the first 25 BMT drivers to pre enter for the Manitowoc venue. Then shortly afterwards Zdroik won the $100 long haul award from Expo's Dan Newberg for towing the furthest to compete. Zdroik wound up 19th in the A main.
TOP TWENTY IN THE MONEY - Eagle River's Pat Zdroik currently holds the 20th position in the BMT Points. The season ending point fund pays 20 spots deep.
NEXT UP - The stars and cars of the Badger Mod Tour will get a well deserved break in the month of September. The season finale will take place Friday, October 5 at 141 Speedway in Francis Creek. It will be night #1 of the Fall Classic. Racing gets underway at 7 p.m. For more information on the Badger Mod Tour check out badgermodtour.com and follow us on Facebook as well.
