75 for Kimmel: Veteran Ends Long ARCA Winless Streak in Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS -- ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards veteran Frank Kimmel won his first race in the series since September 13, 2008, ending a 75-race winless streak with a dominant final stretch in the Messina Wildlife Animal Stopper 200 presented by Federated Car Care at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis.

Kimmel took the lead at Lap 158 and held on through several challenges over the final laps to win for the first time with ThorSport Racing.

"It's hard to get here some times," Kimmel said. "I've got to thank this team and sponsors Ansell and Menards. I'd like to take a lot of that credit but we had a good handling race car. I could turn and cut into traffic and run into the flat, whatever I needed at the end. That made the difference. This is a hard place to drive around and a really hard place to pass people. That's what makes it special."

Tom Hessert finished second and Kevin Swindell was third. Brennan Poole finished fourth, just ahead of Mason Mitchell. Points leader Chris Buescher finished seventh.

ARCA will release more information from Lucas Oil Raceway shortly.

The ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards will visit Pocono Raceway for the second time in 2012 in the Pennsylvania ARCA 125 on Saturday, August 4. The 50-lap shootout on the 2.5-mile oval will begin at 3 p.m. and air live on SPEED. Practice will take place on Friday, August 3, from 1:40-3 p.m., and Menards Pole Qualifying presented by Ansell will start at 5:15. ARCARacing.com will provide live timing and scoring coverage of all on-track action. The event will be the 14th of 20 this season.

2012 is the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards' 60th Anniversary Season, featuring 20 races at 18 tracks. The complete 2012 event schedule is available at ARCARacing.com.

The ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards has crowned an ARCA national champion each year since its inaugural season in 1953, and has toured over 200 race tracks in 26 states since its inception. The series has tested the abilities of drivers and race teams over the most diverse schedule of stock car racing events in the world, visiting tracks ranging from 0.375 mile to 2.66 miles in length, on both paved and dirt surfaces as well as a left- and right-turn road course in its most recent season. This year, the series visited Alabama's Mobile International Speedway and Minnesota's Elko Speedway for the first time.

Founded by John and Mildred Marcum in 1953 in Toledo, Ohio, the Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA) is recognized among the leading sanctioning bodies in the country. Closing in on completing its sixth decade after hundreds of thousands of miles of racing, ARCA administers over 100 race events each season in three professional touring series and local weekly events.
