 by Lou Long
MERCER, Pa. -- Racers, fans and staff at Mercer Raceway Park will take a weekend off to enjoy some summer fun, but racing will return on Saturday, August 11, with a blockbuster event. The ARDC Midgets will be back to make up their rained out program. Joining them on the racing card will be all six divisions in the Saturday Night Live! line-up. What is more, August 11 will be the special promotion for the American Cancer Society! All cancer survivors will be admitted free. The ARDC MIdgets put on a thrilling display during their recent race. There was a three-wide battle for the lead in the closing laps, and intense action throughout the pack all race long. Steve Drevicki came away with the big win, his first of the season. He'll be back looking for the double, but there will be more than twenty other drivers wanting their share of the glory. Among them will be Brandon Matus, one of Mercer's leading drivers in the Luxaire Heating & Cooling Sprint Cars. Matus logged a top ten in his first ride in the small cars. In addition to all of the racing action on the oval, there will be bicycle races on the frontstretch for the children, courtesy of Ray's Racing Collectibles and Approved Toilet Rentals. Remember that all children must have helmets to be able to participate. Special event ticket pricing will be in effect for the August 11 show. That means that adults will pay just $13 for all that raing excitement! Seniors will be admitted for $13 and students for $7. Children ages 8 and under are free, as usual. The economical Family Pass will cost $32, which will admit two adults and up to four minors. Pit Passes will be the usual $25. Last week's Meet Your Heroes Night has been re-set for Saturday, September 8. The event, made possible by Herr's, will allow all fans to go onto the speedway surface to meet and greet all of the racers before the feature events. Fans young and old alike can get autographs and pictures with their favorite drivers!Although there will be no racing at the Park this weekend, the track will be open from 5 p.m. until dusk for practice.
