Thursday, May 26, 2011 Syracuse Basketball's Hopkins Named DIRTcar All-Star Weekend Grand Marshal
 by Amanda Hirko
ELBRIDGE, N.Y. -- An event as big as the DIRTcar All-Star Weekend needs a larger-than-life person to lead it to the green flag, and Syracuse men's basketball assistant coach Mike Hopkins is that man as DIRTcar Racing is excited to announce Hopkins will be the honorary grand marshal for the May 29 event at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park.
Hopkins, one of the most popular players in Syracuse University basketball history, will give the command to "start your engines" to the field of Super DIRTcar Series Big-Block Modifieds at the start of the series 60-lap season-opener.
Following his 15th season on the Orange coaching staff with Jim Boeheim, Hopkins is excited to be a part of DIRTcar All-Star Weekend.
"We are excited to have a Central New York legend in Coach Hopkins be a part of this high-profile event" states Rolling Wheels Raceway General Manager Jeff Hachmann.
The DIRTcar All-Star Weekend on May 29 at Rolling Wheels Raceway in Elbridge, N.Y., will not only attract the premier Big-Block Modified Super DIRTcar Series teams but also DIRTcar Sportsman Modifieds and will include special races like the DIRTcar Pro Stock/Stock Car Challenge and Safety-Kleen Mr. DIRTcar Big-Block Modified Safety-Kleen Shootout.
