Owner's Points Title on Line with Two to Go

Kyle Busch fell just short of making history last weekend in his attempt to become the first NASCAR national-level driver to win three races at the same track during the same weekend -- going for the trifecta of wins in Camping World Truck, Nationwide, and Sprint Cup series races at Texas Motor Speedway.

He accomplished winning the Truck and Nationwide series races that weekend, but in the final race of the weekend, the Sprint Cup event, it was his brother Kurt Busch celebrating in victory lane afterwards.

Busch has two more chances to pull off the feat before the curtain falls on the 2009 season, with all three series running together the final to weekends of the season. Next up -- Phoenix International Raceway.

The Camping World Truck Series gets the racing action at Phoenix underway on Friday night with the running of the Lucas Oil 150.

Busch is definitely riding a wave of momentum, especially in the Truck Series. He has posted six wins in his last six starts in the series.

Busch's chances for a win Friday night in Phoenix are pretty good. He's a previous Camping World Truck Series winner at the track, taking the checkers there in 2007.

Championship points leader Ron Hornaday has also seen success at Phoenix International Raceway; however, his last win there came 10 years ago. Even so, he has two wins at the track -- one in 1998 and 1999.

With a win, Hornaday would clinch the series title a race early, over second-place driver Matt Crafton. He currently holds a 197-point lead over Crafton and could clinch his Truck Series record fourth championship with a 195-point lead after Phoenix.

“All we’re looking for is wins right now,” Crafton said after last Friday's Texas race. “That’s all we want to do is go out there and win."

While Hornaday's fourth driver's championship is pretty much a lock, he's still battling Busch to give Kevin Harvick Inc. the owner's title. Heading into this weekend's race, KHI holds a 75-point lead over Billy Ballew Motorsports, which fields Busch's No. 51 ride.

Television coverage for Friday's Lucas Oil 150 is slated for a 7:30 p.m. ET start on SPEED.
