Joey Logano, GameStop Toyota Pre-Race Notes: Homestead-Miami Speedway

by David Hovis

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. -- Homestead-Miami Speedway (HMS) went through several transformations before settling on the current 1.5-mile, progressively-banked oval that hosts the last race of the NASCAR season. It resembles nothing of the original track that first hosted a NASCAR race in 1995. Joey Logano, however, needs no such makeover. The 19-year-old is supremely talented and is the future of NASCAR. At this weekend’s season finale race at HMS, he will look to put the finishing touches on a solid sophomore season.

Logano and the No. 20 GameStop Toyota team have enjoyed a successful 2009 NASCAR Nationwide Series season. The combination of driver-sponsor team has won 25% of the races they have entered. Logano, while running a limited schedule, has produced five wins and would undoubtedly be in the thick of the championship hunt had he entered all 35 races. While he won’t be racing for a championship this season, Logano will be looking to get the No. 20 Toyota back inside the top-5 in the owner standings.

Joey Logano Quotes

“When the season starts at Daytona, you think that Homestead is so far away. Then it gets here before you know it and it’s hard to believe. This season has been awesome. The GameStop Toyota has always been fast and fun to drive. I’ve had such great support from my team and from the fans that I don’t want to stop. But Daytona will be here quicker than Homestead.”

“I’m looking forward to going back to Homestead. We had a good car there last year; qualified on the pole and led a few laps. Homestead is a great racetrack. You can move around a lot and find the right line for your car. We are taking our California car so hopefully we will have the same finish. A win this weekend would give us a lot of momentum heading into the off-season.”

“This is the perfect race to have Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 on the car because it is the last race before the holiday season. GameStop gave me a copy last week, and it is an unbelievable game. I can see why it’s at the top of a lot of Christmas wish lists this year.”

Noteworthy

Logano won the pole and finished tenth in the 2008 edition of this race.

In 19 starts this season, Logano has four pole awards and has led 441 laps.

The No. 20 Toyota is sixth in the NASCAR Nationwide Series owner point standings.

In six Nationwide Series starts at Homestead, the No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing entry has garnered one top-5 finish, three top-10 finishes and one pole award.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, a first-person shooter video game developed by Infinity Ward and published by Activision for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360, will adorn the No. 20 this weekend, along with GameStop. The recently-released title is expected to be one of the biggest launches of the year for GameStop.
