West Coast Modified Champion Scott Winters Claims The NASCAR Whelen All American Modifieds Victory Presented by Star Racing Supply

STOCKTON, Calif. -- This past Saturday night the NASCAR Whelen All American Modifieds presented by Star Racing Supply headed into their fifth race of the season featuring twin 40 lap main events at Stockton 99 Speedway. The series is supported by Star Grand American Modified series which allows older cars to complete within the series. 16 modified drivers made it to the track to open for the Spears SRL Southwest Tour series and Wes Miller was the driver to beat. Miller fast out of the box took full control in each practice session setting fastest lap.

Wes Miller edged out competitor Scott Winters in qualifying with a fast time of 14.341 seconds holding Winters in second by .019 seconds. Followed by Andy Vanderveer, PJ Pedroncelli, and Jason Fensler the fast five. No heat races were on board for the division as the drivers headed right into the trophy dash and Vanderveer took home the dash victory. An invert of six was drawn setting STAR GAM driver William Camera and Fensler to lead the field to the green flag and Camera took the early lead. Fensler stuck on the outside fell back to sixth by lap six. By lap four, top qualifier Miller moved up to fourth setting his sights on the lead pack. Caution thrown on lap six for oil laid on the track from the No. 49 machine of Andy Vanderveer ended his night early. Vanderveer was running a solid third place until he blew up in smoke. Camera and Winters set to restart the field and Winters stealing the early lead in turn two and Camera followed through. Battling side by side was Miller and Nik Romano for third. On lap nine, Miller made a pass on Camera for second and Romano followed through to keep up with the West Coast Champion Miller. On lap ten, Camera spun collecting Nick Lyons and Jason Fensler creating a caution. Double West Coast Champions, Winters and Miller restarted the field and Winters took the early lead. By lap 15, an eager Miller look to make his move on Winters but couldn't manage enough power to complete a pass for the lead. On lap 29, Lyons who got collected in the last yellow flag had now managed to make it back up to the fifth spot trying to run down the lead pack. Yellow on lap 31, as an anxious Lyons spun in turn three and the remainder of the field went around the 43 car safely. Winters and Miller set the pace for the restart and Miller on the high side took the early lead over Winters. Not so fast as the two make slight contact and Winters regained the lead. Scott Winters went on to collect his second NASCAR Whelen All American Modified Victory presented by Star Racing Supply. Followed by Wes Miller, Nik Romano, Rick Anderson and Jason Fensler the top five.
