COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Johnny Jenkins allocated his second NASCAR Whelen All American Series late model feature of 2012 Saturday night at Columbus Motor Speedway. Stalking early race leader Ray Muncy until late in the main event, Jenkins took advantage when an apparent deflating tire ended Muncy’s designs on victory. Kyle Purvis came from mid-pack to claim his second Columbus modified feature contest while other main event winners included Joe Hensel (sport stock), Cecil Collins (crazy compact) and Zach Gibson (winged sprint cars).

Ray Muncy and Jenkins led the 21 car field of late models to the green flag with the former surging ahead in the early going of the contest. Jenkins and Brandon Oakley gave chase through the mid-point of the 35-lap affair when a pair of drivers began to flex some muscle. Starting seventh and tenth, respectively, Chad Pendleton and Dick Dunlevy found their way into the top-5 at that juncture. Ironically, the duo is battling for the 2012 NASCAR Ohio State championship with just three weekends of racing remaining. With ten laps remaining, and Muncy still showing the way, a deflating tire sent him pit-side and moved Jenkins to the point while elevating Oakley into the runner-up spot. Once back underway, Jenkins held off Oakley, Pendleton, Dunlevy and Josh Cahill for the victory.

Buddy Townsend stormed into the lead of the Columbus modified feature from his front row starting birth while Dave Disinger was in hot pursuit early on. Eventual race winner, Purvis, started sixth and wasted little time in his assault. Up to third at the mid-point of the 30-lap affair he swept past Dave Disinger and went to the outside of Townsend for the lead. Securing the point as lap-20 went up on the NASCAR scoreboard he continued to stretch his advantage. George Lindsay made a late race charge to secure the runner-up spot as Townsend, Disinger and Sean MacNealy followed him across the finish line.

Joe Hensel surged into the lead of the 25-lap sport stock from the outset and held off Bruce Snider for his eighth win of 2012. Mike Litchfield was third at the stripe ahead of Ralph Vinson and Steve Karnes.

Cecil Collins captured his first career crazy compact main event outdistancing Ryan Smith, Charlie Hoepker, fast qualifier Christian Bullock and Jim McElfresh in an exciting 20-lap contest.

Zach Gibson outran everyone in the Buckeye Super Sprint finale holding court over Kevin Mingus, Todd Buchanan, Doug Berryman and Joe Speakman.

While some tracks offer discounted admission prices or special car load admission fees Columbus Motor Speedway is doing the unthinkable next Saturday when all general admission tickets are absolutely free. The special afternoon program will have the gates opening at 2:00PM and racing beginning at 4:00PM. In addition, it will be kids day at the races with free race car rides for the youngsters in addition to a free Joan Jett concert following the races.
