To borrow a line from NHRA announcer Leo Taugher, what has 16 wheels and 24 cylinders – first round of racing for the Miller / JEGS Comp Eliminator Shootout presented by Hughes Racing Enterprises. An elite group of the North Central Division’s best Competition Eliminator racers will square off in the special race-within-a-race during qualifying rounds on Saturday of the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series North Central Division Finals at Beech Bend Raceway Park in Bowling Green, Ky., August 25.

The Miller / JEGS Comp Shootout competitors are determined by a unique point system that rewards racers for both qualifying performance and elimination round wins. Jason Coan is the top seed with his Coan Engineering F/ED or G/EA combination. Coan has been #1 qualifier at four of the five North Central Division NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series events this season plus winner at Summit Motorsports Park.

Also making the elite four car field is David Billingsley winner of the season opener at Indy, defending Miller / JEGS Shootout champion Chuck Haubiel and Route 66 winner and 2012 JEGS Allstar qualifier Rick Brown. All three qualified for the shootout last year.

This year’s shootout winner will receive a Miller prize package worth over $4,000 consisting of the new Multimatic™ 200 welder, a 30FX Arcstation portable welding table, a Miller Digital Elite™ welding helmet, MIG and TIG gloves, clamps and a Weldcraft Triad™ tungsten grinder. The shootout runner-up will receive a $2,000 JEGS gift certificate and each of the two other qualifiers will receive $250.

The Miller / JEGS Comp Shootout is part of an overall program that will awarded over $30,000 to Comp racers in the North Central Division including a Miller Digital Elite™ Classic Black welding helmet awarded to the racer qualifying as the top seed in the bottom half of the field at each of the 2012 series events.
