Friday, July 23, 2004 Noblitt nabs USAC Ford Focus win, Sebetto sizzles in 360 Sprint main at Lakeville

LAKEVILLE, Ohio -- It was open-wheel action on Old-Timers night at Lakeville Speedway but two youngsters were the stars of the show. Columbus Indiana's Jordan Noblitt led all 25 laps of the USAC Ford Focus midgets for his second win of the season but he never had any breathing room as Trent Darland was in hot pursuit all race long and a last lap charge to slip past was not enough. Willie Magrell of Atwater, Ohio made the local fans happy with his third place finish while last years winner at Lakeville, Tate Martz, spun early in the race and worked his way back to fourth after restarting 16th. Joshua Clemons rounded out the top five. Robbie Parrish and Rex Norris III, both driving #63's, won the heats.
Bill Underwood set the early pace of the 360 Outlaw Sprint main, but Fremont's Bryan Sebetto took command on lap three, and for racing for the first time at Lakeville Speedway, looked like a veteran instead of a third year driver. Driving the Ft. Ball Pizza Palace, Buckeye Beverage, and Rainbow Lanes #72, Sebetto won by a half a straightaway over Underwood. Moving through the field was Jamie Martin, as he started 12th and finished in the third slot and 13th starting J.R. Stewart grabbing fourth. Willie Keegan picked up fifth place. Sebetto, Paul Weaver, and Troy Kingan claimed the heat wins with Marty Ling topping the last chance race.
A big pile-up at the start of the Pitt Stop Exhaust cruiser feature took out Scott Clantz, Jeremy Lyons, Rex Trussell, and Dan Burson and on the restart, Mark Sibila would lead the pack for the opening three laps before Don Baney powered past. His time out front would last four laps before last week's winner, Bret Burgess would blow by. It looked like Burgess would easily pick off his second win in a row until the engine in the #500 said no more on lap 16 of the twenty lap main. When the green flag reappeared, Ashland's Mike Graber edged by Baney for the top spot and put himself into the American Payroll Advance victory circle for the fourth time this year, only this time he was driving a borrowed car from Ken Yarosh. Baney finished second with Mason Radcliff working his way all the way back to third after being involved in the first lap skirmish. Bill Severe and Paul McVicker filled out the top five. Craig Fry won the last chance race with Burgess taking the dash win.
Another wild race for the Medina Mountain Motors mini stocks that saw Gary Hensel Jr. leading the first lap with Zero Walter taking control for the next five circuits. Points leader John Ohse, the dash winner, came from his tenth starting position to slip into the lead for seven laps as Hensel Jr. reclaimed the point for one trip around before Ohse and the Killbuck based Smith & Shultz Tire and Steve Martin Construction #47 wrapped up his second win of the year. Hensel Jr. held second with Travis Gray storming from his 12th starting spot to take third followed by Tim Jensen and Jason St. John. The 'B' feature was won by Terry Adkins in the #72 with Ed Harris, Scott Bush, Dustin Cyrus and Chris Everitt following in the top five.
Regular action is on tap for next Friday with the Steel Block Late Models, Pure Stocks, Cruisers, Mini Stocks, and the Mini Trucks primed for the 7:30 p.m. race time.
