ATQMRA Vintage Meeting

BRODHEADSVILLE, Pa. -- The Vintage ATQMRA held its first meeting at the facility of Dimension Design in Brodheadsville, Pa. Officers were elected with Gary Mondschein taking the job of Vintage Division President. Race procedures were discussed as well as scheduling for 2012 including discussions of plans for the Gambler's Classic weekend in Atlantic City. The meeting was well attended with people representing a wide spectrum of interest in Eastern TQ midget racing.

Gary Mondschein started the meeting with a discussion of the formation of the vintage division. Mondschein saw an interest in Eastern TQ midgets in general and a specific interest in providing a place to safely run vintage TQ midgets against one another which really doesn't exist anywhere presently. Mondschein was elected President with Tom Berry taking Vice President and Harry Weed being elected to the post of Secretary/Member at Large. Berry will head the rule book committee and technical inspections.

All eras of TQ midget history were represented. Jonny Coy Jr. whose family history spans the entire existence of eastern open wheel racing was part of the first class of members of the newly formed vintage division. Paul Weisel who owns a vast collection of pre cage TQ midgets that he houses in his museum in Orefield, Pa was on hand and will be active with the organization. Midget great Hank Rogers Jr. who raced with the ATQMRA in the 70’s was on hand to contribute to the dialog. The ATQMRA’s number one fan Robert Noll was on hand as well as current ATQMRA president Mike Roselli and past President Colin Martin who is actively seeking a vintage car to use for events with the club.

The Vintage division will work in conjunction with the regular ATQMRA at select outdoor events and will have its inaugural event in conjunction with the Gambler’s Classic weekend in Atlantic City the weekend of February 2nd 3rd and 4th. The outdoor debut is expected to be a co-sanctioned event with the Atlantic Coast Old Timers with details to follow when they become available. Several tracks have expressed interest in hosting events and a schedule of 3 or 4 events is planned for 2012.

The vintage cars will be divided into two categories of cars 30 years or older. Pre-cage and caged cars will be run with the pre cage cars running exhibition races with the cage cars putting on controlled races with strictly enforced guidelines to provide safe and enjoyable racing for competitors and fans.

Updates can be found at www.ATQMRA.com and information is available by contacting Vintage Division President Gary Mondschein at 570-656-5962.
