Justin Evans Wins at Willamette Speedway

LEBANON, Ore. -- Holding on for the last bit Justin Evans found his way to victory lane for the first time in 2012 in the USRA Modified feature at the Willamette Speedway on Wednesday July 4th. The Lebanon driver became the seventh different winner this season to win in the division at the historic 1/3 mile dirt oval.

Originally Ken Gummas of Vancouver, Washington in Jim’s Flag Sales/Murph’s Saw Show #00 led until he broke when the red flag came out for a wreck on the front stretch on lap one. Kevin Keeney of Sweet Home in the Glen Hackney owned #1 sponsored by Wirth Wireless/Hubler Racing Engines/Swartz inherited the lead but would also have to retire. That gave the lead to Justin Evans in the Albie’s Medical Transport/Monty’s Racing Repair #17 Shaw and he would the entire distance.

Evans would receive considerable pressure from defending champion Dustin Dittman in the Susan River Reality/Mid Valley Farms #7 X-Factor who was right there with him until the very end. Dittman, of Albany, raced hard and despite some body damage was clearly still fast and very competitive. Dittman would finish in second while the James Gang Pizza/Lebanon Auto Body #26 GRT of fellow Albany driver Brett James was third. Albany’s Craig Hanson in the Virgil Hanson Automotive Machine/News Talk 1580 KGAL AM #33C Shaw was fourth and Bubba Foster from Dayton finished fifth in his Busy Bee Cleaning/Pam Pam’s Auto Wrecking #68 Alien to complete the top five.

Fast qualifier of the night was Brett James at 16.976 second and Dustin Dittman won the trophy dash. Justin Evans and the Mountain View Woodworking Inc./Unlimited Business Service #49 Pro of Crawfordsville chauffer Tom Yeack were both heat race winners.

The USRA Modifieds return to the Willamette Speedway on Saturday July 7th for the Willamette 100. For more information log on to the track’s official website www.trophymotorsports.com.
