Saturday, June 9, 2012 French Flys to Finish First

MANASSAS, Va. -- French Grimes was on a fast flight to the front at the high banks of Old Dominion Speedway Saturday night to take his first pavemment win after a part failure at the last asphalt event cost him the win. Heats kicked off the hot night of racing with Carl Simmonds and Jerald Harris taking those before it was off to the feature. Charlie Ware and Carl Simmonds paced he field with Ware getting a jump on the field but Simmonds stayed high and took over on lap two with Ware on his bumper.
By lap five French was on the way and on lap eight he was under Simmonds and in to the lead. Grimes continued to lead as Simmonds was slowing with a problem as Tony Harris was coming on strong and with a mid race caution they were stacked up ready to challenge. Grimes took off with Tony Harris going low to challenge and Jerald Harris now third the three were going at it. Grimes began to inch away until he could see the checkered flag waving streaking under it with a little cushion over Tony Harris for the win. At the line it was French Grimes, Tony Harris, Jerald Harris, Anthony Linkenhoker, Chris Ware, Rick Bong, Charlie Ware, Ron Moyers and Carl Simmonds.
Next Week Saturday night June 16th the Virginia Sprint Series with makes it's first visit to Shenandoah Speedway in Shanendaoh, Va. for another night of pavemant pounding action.
