Saturday, June 9, 2012 Atkinson and Fisher Put on a Show
 by Gib Chew
CLERMONT, Ind. -- Terry Fisher, Jr. and Jason Atkinson raced side by side for the last 18 laps of the AAA Insurance Night of Speed, Top Speed Fabrication CRA Late Model Sportsman 30 lap race at Lucas Oil Raceway with Fisher hanging on to win by less than a quarter of a second. After earning the Allstar Performance Fast Qualifier Award Fisher drew a 10 to start deep in the field just behind Atkinson. By the eighth lap he had worked his way up to front and took the lead after a restart on the ninth lap. Atkinson followed him to the front and restarted beside Fisher who elected to take the high lane following the race's second and last caution on the 12th lap. Fisher kept the lead, with Atkinson beside him for many laps. Atkinson briefly led but was only able to hold on for one lap, but Fisher never gave up and took the lead back on lap 24. From there he would lead the rest of the way for the win. Bob Sibila was third, KC Spillers fourth and Tommy Cook fifth. "It was a great race, I really enjoyed racing beside Jason." Fisher stated. "He wore me out, I could not get away, he was right there the whole time, but it was fun." Brian McFadden started on the pole and led the first few laps, with Billy Van Meter, in his first start in a Top Speed Fabrication CRA Late Model Sportsman car, ran second. Tommy Cook took the lead on the fifth lap with Van Meter still running second. Following a caution on lap 9, Fisher jumped out the lead. Then disaster struck for Van Meter when a tire went down and he hit the second turn wall hard. The ensuing restart set up the battle for Atkinson and Fisher. For running tight without ever touching Fisher, Atkinson earned the AR Bodies Cool Move of the Race. “I loved racing that close with Terry (Fisher), it is great to race like that and know that the other driver will never touch you. I had a lot of fun tonight” Atkinson stated. Fisher took home the Turn One High Performance Steering Lap Leader Award for leading the most laps. He also earned the AFCO Racing Products Hardcharger and Racing Electronics Hard Charger Awards for moving up the most positions during the race. The Top Speed Fabrication CRA Late Model Sportsman will be back in action on July 15 at Winchester Speedway for Winchester’s Family Fun Day. The CRA Street Stocks and Vore’s FWD Compacts will be racing also. For more information about any of the CRA Series go to www.craracing.net.
