OVID, Mich. -- 24 JEGS / CRA All-Stars Tour cars lined up for the second annual running of the Big O Classic 100 Presented by JEGS.com. Johnny Belott, making his first appearance at the Owosso Speedway in several seasons would lead the field down to the green. Just two laps later, it would be DeWitt, Michigan’s Chad Finley claimed the lead, Finley would then soon have to contend with Defending Series Champion Erik Jones, a former regular at the Owosso Speedway and now part-time ARCA Racing Series competitor. Jones and Finley would trade the lead several times, until Finley fell back into the clutches of Boyne Machine fast qualifier, Brian Campbell. Campbell would shadow Jones for the next 20 laps, until Jones would falter on a restart with two flat tires, handing the lead over to Campbell on lap 37. From that point on, Campbell was untouchable, opening up a sizable gap between himself and the rest of the field. In the end, it would be Wyoming, Michigan’s Brian Campbell taking the win, with Chad Finley second. Dave Gentile Jr., Daniel Hemric and Birch Run, Michigan’s Robbie Johnson rounded out the top five. Campbell was Boyne Machine Fast Qualifier with a 15.571.

Next up on the track were the Owosso Speedway Sport Stocks. Chris Taylor would lead the field down to the start of the 20-lap event. C. Taylor would pace the field in the opening laps, but a hard charging Aaron Taylor would get by to take the lead. Austin Pinnell would challenge A. Taylor, but in the end it would be A. Taylor taking the win. Pinnell was second with Dutch Taylor, Jeremy Donnert and Brad Robison rounding out the top five. Jeremy Donnert won the heat race, while Pinnell set fast time with a 19.475. By virtue of his win, Aaron Taylor clinched the 2012 Track Championship.

The next feature on the track would be the Economy Print and Graphics / Chet’s Auto Service Sportsmen, running a 25-lap main event. Four-time Dixie Motor Speedway Champion Don Riley lead the field down to chief starter Jeremy Slayden’s green flag. Jon Giffel would get a run on the outside, claiming the top spot, and soon after, he would have his hands full with current points leader, Chris Begg. The two drivers would battle side by side for several laps, exchanging the lead multiple times, until Begg finally broke free from Giffel and began to pull away. Begg would manage to maintain his torrid pace as he went on to take the win. Jon Giffel would be second with Vinnie Miller, Kevin Harder and Travis Skarvi rounding out the top five. Nick Burd and Giffel took heat race wins with Jimmy Stratton setting the mark in qualifying with a 17.214. by virtue of his win, Chris Begg would clinch the 2012 Track Championship.

The final feature of the evening would be the Shiawassee Shores Pure Stocks, running 20-laps. Steven Pelky would start from the pole, running out front in the initial part of the event. Pelky would soon be overwhelmed by a hard charging Ron Hart, who took command of the top spot. Hart would run out in front, as Bob Elliott, already clinched 2012 Track Champion, worked his way up through the field. Elliott would be glued to Hart’s back bumper but couldn’t find a way to get around as Ron Hart claimed his second win of the season. Elliott would settle for second with Jake Thompson, Pat Standley and Pelky completing the top five. 2012 Dixie Motor Speedway Champion Cam Hiltz, and Thompson would take heat race wins with Elliott setting fast time with a 19.184.

This Saturday at Owosso will be another great show, as we crown our 2012 Track Champions in all five divisions, including still hotly contested Championships for the Affordable Tire and Service Center Pro Late Models and Liskey’s Auto and Truck Service Modifieds.
