 by Scott Lee Stewart
HUMBOLDT, Kan. -- Back in March of this year, Stormy Scott from Las Crucas, New Mexico won the biggest race of his carrer when he was crowned "King Of America" at Humboldt Speedway. Friday night, Stormy added another impressive win to his resume, again at "The Hummer."
In his first night out in a new car, for a new team, Scott started 16th in a 28 car field, ran 40 laps, and won the feature, gathering $4000.00 in the process.
Springfield, Mo. driver Terry Phillips started on the outside pole of the race, and held control past the first 25 laps. Scott, meanwhile, joined several more drivers in weaving his way to the front at a high velocity. At one point, it was up for grabs between the top 5 finishers, Phillips, Scott, Mark Dodson, Ryan Gustin, and Rodney Sanders. With cars runing 3 and sometimes 4 wide, this race was a joy to watch! In the end, Phillips was runner up, Dodson, from Cameron, Mo. was third, Gustin, of Marshaltown, Iowa was fourth, and Sanders, out of Happy, Texas finished fifth.
A newcomer, Brad Smith of Belton, Mo., racked up a debut win in B-Mod feature action. Tim VanGotten was second, Jack Simmons, Jimmie Davis, and Brad Jarman rounded out the top five.
Scott Stuart continues to dominate Factory Stock with yet another feature win. Scott's dad, Steve, was runner up in this weeks event, with David Matlock third. Fourth went to Patrick Kay, Derrek Wilson was fifth.
Meanwhile, the heat is on in the Pure Stock division as Mid Season approaches. Levi Phillips returned to the winners circle this week, finishing strong against second place Tyler Kidwell. Derek Michael was in the thick of the fray, finishing third. Mike Churning was fourth, Michael Aiello was fifth.
Mid Season Champions will be crowned next week at The Hummer.
