2012 Skip Barber Presents the Mazda Summer Series at Watkins Glen Int'l Raceway

BRASELTON, Ga. -- The Skip Barber Racing School presents the Mazda Summer Series for Skip Barber Formula and the MAZDASPEED Challenge held rounds 3 and 4 at the famous Watkins Glen International Raceway. Brian Cook experienced his first win in the Skip Barber Summer Series while David Levine dominated the MAZDASPEED Challenge. Greg Holloway also showed great improvements by getting two podiums in the Formula class.

Group 1, Race 1 Skip Barber Presents the Mazda Summer Series, MAZDASPEED Challenge

David Levine took the early lead at the green flag followed by Bryan Hixon and Brett Hawkins. Ashley McCalmont had a spectacular start which brought her up to the front of the pack and allowed a challenge for third. Bryan Hixon soon feels the pressure from behind as Brett Hawkins and McCalmont are nose-to-tail behind him. Ashley takes third in turn nine from Hawkins while David Levine extended his lead over the group. McCalmont takes second from Hixon with five laps to go. However, with only a few laps to go, she experiences a minor mishap in the bus stop of the Glen when her car went into the wall. A full course caution came out forcing us to finish under yellow. David Levine took the win followed by Bryan Hixon and Brett Hawkins.

Group 1, Race 2 Skip Barber Presents the Mazda Summer Series, MAZDASPEED Challenge

David Levine takes the lead early followed by Brian Hixon at the start. Brett Hawkins comes nose-to-tail with Bryan Hixon and the two work together to catch Levine by lap three. Soon into the race, Hixon and Hawkins start a battle themselves. They begin passing and re-passing game which in turn allows Levine to extend his lead rapidly. Brett Hawkins takes second and Hixon holds tight to third for the remainder of the race.

Group 2, Race 1 Skip Barber Presents the Mazda Summer Series, Formula Skip Barber

Ryan Garcia takes the early lead after the green flag followed by Brian Cook and Greg Strelzoff. Strelzoff makes a pop for second from Brian Cook and makes it stick. But Cook doesn't give up so easily. He retakes the position a few laps later in the laces. Garcia extends his lead dramatically and has a huge advantage over the field. Strelzoff takes second back from Cook on the way to turn nine while Bill Shields and Greg Holloway have good battle going for fourth. The checkered flag comes out for Ryan Garcia followed by Greg Strelzoff and David Levine.

Group 2, Race 2 Skip Barber Presents the Mazda Summer Series, Formula Skip Barber

Ryan Garcia takes the lead while Greg Holloway makes a very early pass for fourth at the start. Greg Strelzoff and David Levine held place in second and third respectively. Holloway spins in the laces which brought out the full course yellow on lap five. The green flag flew on lap seven. Garcia remained in the lead followed by Strelzoff. David Levine and Brian Cook battle hard for third. Levine holds onto the position at the checkered.

Group 3, Race 1 Skip Barber Presents the Mazda Summer Series, MAZDASPEED Challenge

David Levine, once again, took the early lead for this race. Michael Auriemma took second from Brett Hawkins early in the race but Hawkins was not going to make it easy on him. Hawkins reclaims the second spot a few laps after. Meanwhile, Ashley McCalmont and Deyne Bentt are battling hard for fifth. Positions stay the same as they approach to the last few laps of the race. The checkered flag comes out for David Levine. Brett Hawkins manages to keep Auriemma at bay to take second while McCalmont holds off Deyne Bentt for fourth.

Group 3, Race 2 Skip Barber Presents the Mazda Summer Series, MAZDASPEED Challenge

David Levine continued his dominance by taking an early lead over the field followed by Brett Hawkins and Deyne Bentt. Michael Auriemma battles heavily with Deyne Bentt for third. Brett Hawkins closes in on David Levine for the lead but can't make a move for the spot . The Checkered flag comes out for David Levine followed by Brett Hawkins and Deyne Bentt.

Group 4, Race 1 Skip Barber Presents the Mazda Summer Series, Formula Skip Barber

As the racers come through, there is a wave off for bad grouping at the line. After one additional lap, the green flag flys for Greg Strelzoff who took an early lead. Greg Holloway takes second from Doug Tuttle. Greg Strelzoff extends his lead early from the pack followed by Greg Holloway and Doug Tuttle. Tuttle eventually loses the third position to Bobby Eberle on lap eight. The checkered flag comes out for Greg Strelzoff followed by Greg Holloway and Bobby Eberle.

Group 4, Race 2 Skip Barber Presents the Mazda Summer Series, Formula Skip Barber

The green flag came out and Gary Vizioli took the early lead. Bobby Eberle brought out a full course caution when his car hits the wall at bus stop. Gary Vizioli held onto the lead followed by Gus Doppes until lap five when a black flag all was brought out due to an incident involving the two at bus stop. Both drivers are ok and the green flag resumed on lap six. Brian Cook slides into the first spot and becomes the new leader followed by Strelzoff and Holloway. The two racers battle it out and make a great show. At the checkered flag, Brian Cook brings home his first win followed by Greg Strelzoff and Greg Holloway.
