BRIGHTON, Colo. -- The Championship Late Model Association DIRTcar Southern Series Presented by Indy Screen Print will be getting their season back under way this weekend at Aztec Speedway after taking a three month break. The last time that the CLMA DIRTcar Southern Series raced was at the Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on March 7th with Don Shaw of Minnesota picking up the win. With such a long break between races the drivers are chomping at the bit to get back on the track in Aztec, NM this weekend on Friday, June 8th and Saturday, June 9th.

The CLMA DIRTcar Series raced at Aztec Speedway four times in 2011 and there were three different winners. Jeep Berry of Grand Junction, CO picked up his 7th career CLMA win on July 7th and 2011 CLMA DIRTcar Series Rookie of the Year, Garrett Alberson, of Las Cruces, NM picked up his first career CLMA win on July 8th. Kelly Boen, of Henderson, CO was able to sweep the Labor Day weekend races and move back to 2nd on the all time CLMA wins list with 17 career wins with the series. At the Labor day weekend races there were 29 cars both nights which was a the most cars all season for a non co-sanction raced for the CLMA. The CLMA has worked with several tracks and series this year and there is not another late model race with in 700 miles of this weekends races so we are hoping to have cars from Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, Arizona, Utah, and Wyoming make the trip for this race.

Friday's race will pay $1,500 to win and $225 to start and Saturday's race will pay $2,500 to win and $300 to start. Both races will be CLMA DIRTcar Southern Series, DIRTcar Western Region, and DIRTcar National Points races. Any driver that travels over 300 will make a minimum of $275 to start Fridays race. Also, any driver that is in the top 10 in CLMA DIRTcar Southern Series points will make a minimum of $275 to start Fridays race. Hoosier D55 tires and 2300 pound weight rule will be required for these races.

Racers will be allowed to camp in the pits and there is also limited camping space for the fans. For everyone that needs to stay in a hotel the track has worked with several local hotels that will give discounts as long as you ask for the Aztec Speedway Rate.
