Tuesday, April 5, 2005 Eckert hits World of Outlaw trail again this weekend
by Race Author, Rick Eckert Racing
YORK, Pa. -- After nearly a two-month hiatus from the Stacker2 World of Outlaws Late Model series schedule, Rick Eckert and the rest of the “Dirty Dozen” will be back in action this Friday night, April 8, at the Allegany County Speedway (“The Rock”) in Cumberland, MD. A $10,000 payday is on the line for the WoO Series first event at the .522 mile clay oval. The event will be broadcast live on Dirtvision.com. Rick got some quality seat time last month in the season opener at “The Rock,” as he was able to capture the $3,000 top prize in an unsanctioned event. For more information on this Friday’s event, point your web browser to www.therockspeedway.com and www.woolms.com.
The second event of the doubleheader WoO Late Model Series weekend will be held at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway in Saluda, VA. The $10,000 to win ‘Dixie Chopper 50’ presented by Thurston Spring Service, Inc. is on tap for Saturday night, April 9. This is also the first appearance by the cars and stars of the Stacker2 WoO Series at the ½-mile dirt facility. The ‘Dixie Chopper 50’ will be taped by the cameras of the SPEED Channel for airing on Saturday, May 7 at 3:00 p.m. The latest information on this event can be found online at www.virginiamotorspeedway.com and www.woolms.com.
Rick and the Raye Vest Racing team currently sits twelfth in the latest version of the WoO point standings after only two events. The two events were run back in February at the Volusia (FL) Speedway Park. Rick registered a fourth and a nineteenth place finish in the two events on the ½-mile, high-banked oval near Daytona Beach. The York, Pennsylvania driver finished third in last year's version of the WoO point standings.
“I am excited to get back on the World of Outlaws trail,” stated Eckert on Monday. “Hopefully the weather cooperates and we can race this weekend. I have a lot of experience at both venues, so maybe we can gain a few points back from Florida. It is a long season, but you always have to worry about gaining the most points possible when you are points racing.”
Rick brought his Raye Vest / J&J Steel #24 Rocket / Cornett Thunder Ford Taurus to the Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap, TN last weekend for the annual ‘Spring Thaw’ event. However, due to rain and inclement weather, the weekend was canceled. Before the rains came on Friday, Rick qualified sixth for the $3,000 to win event and was slated to start from the outside of the third row.
